About The Position

Kern Medical is an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, providing advanced trauma care and a range of primary, specialty, and multi-specialty services. It serves 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients annually. The Food Service Worker II is an entry-level or trainee position, performing routine and repetitive tasks under close supervision, primarily focused on maintaining cleanliness in the cafeteria and kitchen, operating and cleaning kitchen equipment, preparing simple foods, and serving/delivering food to patients and the public. This is an extra-help, temporary employment with a limited term of up to 9 months.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience as a Food Service Worker I or two (2) years experience performing similar tasks in an institutional kitchen
  • A background check may be required for this classification
  • Possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required if position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle
  • Possession of a current valid California Driver’s license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required if position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical

Responsibilities

  • Operates food service-related equipment as required, including the use of a cash register
  • Operates and cleans dishwashing machine
  • Loads and unloads dishes from dishwashing machine
  • Operates and cleans food and beverage dispensing machines
  • Cleans kitchen tools and utensils; washes and dries pots and pans
  • Maintains a clean work area; sweeps and mops floors
  • Cleans grill area, sinks and dining room tables
  • Places food, drinks and condiments on patient food trays
  • Delivers, serves and collects patient food trays
  • Assembles, stocks, disassembles and cleans cafeteria serving line
  • Prepares and serves simple foods and beverages
  • Assembles and replenishes condiments
  • Unpacks and stores supplies
  • Performs other job-related duties as required
