About The Position

This position manages the work of cooks in the Special Diets department and other kitchen employees as needed. The Technician 2 is responsible for forecasting quantities of food and supplies needed, inventory, ordering food and supplies, creating and maintaining production records, assist in evaluating and communicating menu changes pertaining to allergens, read and understand food labels, scheduling work preparing food, setting up and loading carts, coordinating delivery, cleanliness, cross contact safety and sanitation of the Food Production Center. The Technician 2 works under the direct supervision of the Specialist Dietitian, Nutrition Services.

  • A High School Education or GED equivalent is required
  • Five years of food services experience or related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Management experience preferred
  • Certified Dietary Manager certificate and/or comparable experience with modified diets in a regulated field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Attention to detail to maintain food accuracy and student safety across the entire district.
  • Estimates and requisitions appropriate quantities of food and supplies needed.
  • Coordinates the use of food or supply inventory with the Tech 1 of other departments, Stock Clerk II, and other staff to prevent waste and increase financial stability of department.
  • Schedules work preparing food, setting up and loading carts, pulling and soaking schedule.
  • Monitors cleanliness and sanitation standards of assigned areas.
  • Monitors foods safety and cross contact risks for assigned areas.
  • Monitor product use-by dates and coordinate planned use up with Dietitian Specialist.
  • Coordinates with Specialist Dietitian to manage and evaluate all employees in assigned area.
  • Coordinates production schedule with Tech 1 of departments within Food Production Center to complete production on shared equipment to meet needs of department and Nutrition Services at large.
  • Monitors quality of product by inspecting and tasting food prior to delivery.
  • Monitors Safety of product by inspecting and tasting modified texture food prior to delivery.
  • Is responsible for accuracy of all food quantities and directs daily distribution of food for delivery routes
  • Calculates recipes, menu ingredients, allergen compatibility, and component contribution.
  • Is responsible for safe operation of all equipment in assigned area.
  • Is responsible for coordinating scheduled maintenance of food processors, modification blades, induction burner, strainers, and other department specific equipment with the Dietitian Specialist.
  • Increased responsibility during Summer Food Service Program (May-July) including coordinating menu planning, production, coverage of planned absence, substitute scheduling and training with Dietitian Specialist.
  • Performs other assigned duties as may be required by the Dietitian Specialist.
  • Computer skills as needed to order, calculate orders, communicate with school staff and Specialist Dietitian, create and maintain menu templates.
  • Must have people skills to handle minor employee discipline and motivation problems.
  • Have strong leadership qualities to take charge when the Dietitian Specialist is absent.
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
