About The Position

Shriver Job Corps Center is a program funded by the Department of Labor that provides disadvantaged students aged 16-24 with free hands-on vocational training and the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent. Our academic and career training programs are accredited and lead to national industry-recognized credentials. Our 21-acre campus is nestled away minutes off of Route 2 in Devens, MA. We service between 200 and 300 students at any given time with rolling admissions weekly. Most students reside on campus, while some commute daily. Job Description Responsible for the supervision and management of the food service area. Supervises and manages all kitchen staff to include Job Corps and Work-Based Learning students assigned to the department. Manages and oversees the overall Center food preparation activities including Student Store/Snack Bar. Manages dining room, including student monitors, student behavior, and Food Service department. Ensures quality control, plans menus, coordinates food purchases and manages food service’s budget. Oversees food preparation for special functions. Researches, develops and recommends new menu items. Coordinates the preparation and availability of box lunches for Work Based Learning students and students off Center for other reason. Ensures compliance with all USDOL and Job Corps guidelines and directives.. Ensures sanitation compliance and the overall cleanliness of all food service areas. Ensures compliance with OSHA standards. Ensures compliance to applicable state and local health department guidelines as they apply to food service operations for food handling, preparation, serving and sanitation. Responsible to operate the evening snack program. May transport students to and from Center. Interviews and recommends for hire, disciplines and evaluates performance of the direct report staff. Fills staff vacancies in a timely manner. Effectively motivates, empowers and requires staff to perform his/her job responsibilities. Employs sound time-management and delegation skills. Holds staff accountable for producing quality work, develops staff for career progression and disciplines staff that fail to meet goals. Provides required/supplemental training for new and current employees. Motivates and manages staff to work effectively, creates a supportive work environment, recognizes staff accomplishments and proactively addresses staff performance concerns. Provides high-quality supervision and management for the student population. Takes swift and appropriate action and positively influences student behavior. Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior. Provides quality services for students and ensures that quality is maintained and student needs are met. Pursues improvement and enhancement requisite services. Works in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students. Accepts direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two-year degree or certification from an accredited or relevant certified training program or school.
  • Three or more years in institutional food preparation and technical training preferred.
  • One year of management/supervisory experience required, three years plus preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain ServSafe credentials.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping and crouching.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and / or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.
