About The Position

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Food Service Liaison to join our team! JOB SUMMARY: The Food Service Liaison is a customer relations specialist. He/she will educate patients about their menus, assist patients with ordering as needed and will deliver meals to the bedside. Food Service Liaisons will be the face of the Nutritional Services Department throughout Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) and Mountain View Hospital (MVH) and will keep coffee stations and nutrition stations stocked. Requirements

  • High school graduate (or equivalent)
  • Food Handler’s Permit (required within 90 days of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Orient and prepare patients for meal service
  • Deliver menus to patients
  • After a diet order has been placed in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), a copy of the correct menu will be hand-delivered to the patient
  • Orient the patient to the menu
  • Show where the various parts are of the menu including Breakfast menu, Lunch & Dinner menu, Beverage menu, Dessert menu and Condiments
  • Show in the menu and orally explain the process for ordering meals through room service ordering
  • Ask the patients if they have additional questions
  • Assist patients with ordering meals if needed
  • If a patient has not ordered a meal by a designated time, Food Service Liaison will visit the patient with tablet in hand and as appropriate take the patient’s order in person
  • Use the iPad language translator to communicate with non-English-patients as needed.
  • Deliver meal trays to patients
  • Deliver trays within a timely manner, according to department policy and procedures, including using patient identification procedures and recording delivery times
  • Provided personalized assistance with tray as need – such as opening beverages, getting ice, cutting food, etc.
  • Keep a constant rotation of the used dish carts and clean carts to provide the kitchen with dishes, bases, and silverware.
  • Stock floor nutrition stations, waiting areas and doctors’ lounges fully each day, rotating food in a First In, First Out manner and pulling expired products daily
  • Coffee stations are to be refilled and restocked promptly first thing in the morning and again throughout the day as needed according to department procedures
  • Prepare and initial stocking lists and provide paperwork to the Patient Nutrition Coordinator. Stocks will be processed in the DFM program on an electronic tablet, so products are billed to the correct departments
  • Participate in continued education, training and maintenance of Food Handlers’ Permits
  • Maintain current Food Handlers’ Permit
  • Complete yearly competency in tray passing.
  • Complete training and maintain competency in using iPad language translator.
  • Complete the standard Idaho Falls Community Hospital, Nutritional Services and position-specific Health Stream educations in a timely manner
  • Participate in intra and interdepartmental meetings
  • Participates in a short daily Huddle meetings under the direction of the Patient Nutrition Coordinator and/or Nutritional Services Manager to review important information of the day
  • Attend the regularly scheduled Nutritional Services staff meetings
  • Meetings are mandatory and will count as an absence unless you are excused for vacation or illness/leave
  • If a meeting is missed, the notes from that meeting must be carefully read – it is the responsibility of the individual to seek clarification on any information that is not understood
  • Attend additional meetings as needed
