Food Service Aide-Nutritional Services Overview UnityPoint-St Luke's Part-Time Evening Shift Prepare, provide and serve attractive and quality food with a friendly, safe and courteous manner to all patients in accordance with all department policies & procedures. Perform duties of cleaning and sanitizing dishes, pans, and equipment throughout the department. To fill and deliver nursing unit kitchen supplies as assigned. Provide excellent customer service. Requirements

  • No experience necessary.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Machines: Soft serve machine, coffee urn, iced tea machine, salad bar, hot steam table, fountain pop, refrigerators, freezers, knives, and any other pertinent food service equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service/Patient Care Prepares, provides, and serves attractive and quality food and service as assigned.
  • Maintains good portion control.
  • Utilizes positive customer service skills such as smiling, offering suggestions, providing for special requests, etc.
  • Use of AIDET to ensure patient experience and verify patient identification
  • Delivers patient trays to all areas of the hospital.
  • Ensures nurses are notified of carb control tray deliveries.
  • Ensures dieticians are notified of calorie counts for assigned patients.
  • Assists in menu collection for critical care patients, non-English speaking patients, and low literacy patients.
  • Uses CBORD diet office software competently and completes daily CBORD tasks
  • Modifies menus as needed following medical staff approved Diet Manual guidelines and by following meal patterns/goals as established by the dietitian for inpatients.
  • Accurately processes diet orders and changes for each meal, checking menu against diet orders, completeness, preferences, and adequacy of selection.
  • Assists specified departments with ordering floor stock and delivers ordered floor stock to departmental kitchens.
  • Technical & Safety Correctly operate department equipment that has been assigned.
  • Clean and restock dishes, food, supplies, and beverages during hours of operation as assigned.
  • Practices HACCP guidelines for food handling and a sanitary and safe condition.
  • Reports any equipment malfunction to a supervisor.
  • Monitors and records temperatures, utilizes safe food handling techniques, maintains a clean orderly work station.
  • Checks out with Supervisor or Team Lead at the end of their shift.
  • Fulfills all other designated tasks pertinent to the success of the NFS department
  • Basic UPH Performance Criteria Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.
  • Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
