About The Position

To prepare and serve healthy, attractive & delicious food and provide exceptional service to staff, members and customers; to manage the front of the house (FoH) to meet goals for sales, margin, labor expense and customer service. Status : $27.00/hour, Non-Exempt. Full-time, hourly, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends required. Supervisor : Food Service Manager

Requirements

  • Prior deli counter, food service, catering, or restaurant management experience
  • Supervisory experience in hiring, training, and evaluating employees
  • Experience developing systems and procedures
  • Demonstrated familiarity with basic office software and strong arithmetic skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple demands and to handle emergency situations as they arise
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods
  • Ability to work safely, calmly and effectively with others as a part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both in listening to and directing others
  • Flexibility in scheduling

Responsibilities

  • Work shifts with FoH team to prepare drinks, pizzas, and sandwiches to order; develop and follow menu and portion guidelines; oversee proper stocking, rotation, and dating of FoH items to ensure freshness; serve food in a prompt, friendly courteous manner
  • Ensure that deli cases are stocked fully to give feeling of abundance
  • Ensure that all product is in sellable condition and meets quality standards
  • Take responsibility for knowing the menu and understanding how it tastes, how it looks, how it travels, and what accompaniments are required
  • Ensure that all items are accurately labeled with price and ingredients
  • Maintain menu boards
  • Work with Deli manager to develop new FoH recipes
  • Present a pleasant demeanor and greet everyone you encounter
  • Offers product samples and suggestions for purchase in a friendly courteous manner
  • Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to appropriate Manager
  • Maintain awareness of customers and co-workers throughout the department to ensure premium customer service
  • Provide management presence throughout the Food Service Department and guidance to staff in the absence of a food service sub department manager or in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • See that unsalable items are properly disposed of and keep accurate loss records
  • Maintain counter, deli and self-service cases and prep areas in sanitary and orderly condition following health department regulations
  • Place orders in a timely manner to ensure adequate amounts of ingredients and food preparation supplies are on-hand
  • Monitor FoH time and temperatures; advise Deli Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs
  • Participate in periodic inventories
  • Develop and implement proper opening, closing and shift change procedures
  • Recruit and hire qualified applicants following established policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement and ensure on-the-job training for all FoH staff
  • Conduct and document performance evaluations; and when appropriate, recommend pay increases
  • Document performance issues and take corrective action as needed following established policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain FoH staff schedule and review time sheets
  • Create and monitor FoH prep sheets
  • Organize staff meetings for FoH employees
  • Participate in deli management team meetings
  • Communicate with FoH staff on all matters that pertain to job performance
  • Participate in sales target, margin, and budget development
  • Track items for margin adherence, sales performance, and profit
  • Track employee production and performance as a component of sales
  • Track product lines for leads, turnover, rotation and inventory management
  • Work with Deli Manager to develop and improve catering menu
  • Consult with customers regarding catering and special events
  • Implement catering fulfillment system; work with Kitchen Manager to ensure delicious product and timely delivery as indicated by customer feedback
  • Develop catering line of business
