About The Position

Assists the Food & Nutrition Services Director in the operation of K-12 food service program serving over 3 million meals annually according to state and federal program requirements. Oversees four office staff and 100+ food service staff members. Lead contact for multiple vendors. Forecasts all food and nonfood products used in kitchens monthly. Assists director with developing an RFP/bid for beverages, produce, bread and other products each school year. Evaluates potential new products. Manages federal commodity food entitlement to maximize value, quality, and efficient use of federal funding. Works collaboratively with the warehouse staff, vendors, and food service staff to ensure food is delivered to 37 buildings. Assists with the development of cycle and a la carte menus. Prices all a la carte items according to state and federal guidelines. Lead coordinator of monitoring all daily and biweekly warehouse driver routings, orders, deliveries, and inventories. Checks kitchen orders according to menu and inputs into vendor websites. Tracks delivery times for kitchen staff. Prints and sends menus to elementary staff and satellite managers. Updates vendor order forms and provides to staff. Prints, scans, and emails menus and production records to early education teachers. Answers phone calls early morning for any issues that arise in kitchens before arriving to office. Hires all food service staff for permanent positions and sends documentation to human resources. Provides orientation for new staff. Generates memo for staff that apply and accept open positions within food service. Provides human resources with a memo requesting to post open food service positions when they become available. Lead contact for catering events. Plans, prices, and staffs catering and special events district wide. Produces invoices for catering events and follows up with accounting to ensure invoices are paid. Creates buttons and prices in Meal Magic for the POS system used in cafeterias Works in Titan to assist with adding items, creating meal plans, production records and recipes. Inputs work orders for maintenance in kitchens and transfer of equipment throughout the district. Approves payroll in Kronos for 11 secondary kitchen staff and provides payroll with pay adjustments for employees that have transferred into a higher paying role during the pay period. Assists with planning monthly training meetings for elementary and secondary staff Fill in for lead speaker at meetings when Food & Nutrition Service Director is not available. Answers many phone calls daily. Ensures excellence through equity and access for all students. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in high-volume food service management.
  • Experienced in food service management including quantity food preparation techniques, operation of commercial kitchen equipment and sanitation and safety practices.
  • Experience in office management, delegation of tasks, and work group collaboration.
  • Experience with multi-site personnel management and coordination.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with technologies such as AS400, Kronos, Meal Magic, and Titan.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of classified information.
  • Available for occasional evening and/or early morning duties outside of typical work hours.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment featuring detailed work, multitasking, intense deadlines with many interruptions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot on demand with kitchen staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with emphasis on food service/hospitality management and/or nutrition dietetics preferred.
  • Accredited or eligible for Serve-Safe Certification.
