About The Position

The Food Service Assistant position is a part-time, benefits-eligible role within the BayCare Leased Employees - Orthopedic Building at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. The role requires working 20 hours per week, primarily two days per week from 0600-1530, and every other weekend. Key responsibilities include assembling and delivering patient and mobile meal trays according to diet guidelines, loading and transporting food carts, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and cafeteria. The assistant will also operate a cash register, handle cash, and complete daily reports. Additional duties involve assisting with the preparation, delivery, setup, cleanup, and presentation of catered and specialized events, preparing various patient food items, and replenishing food service areas. The role also requires monitoring food temperatures to ensure safe food handling. The position demands basic food service knowledge, good communication, customer service skills, and intermediate computer proficiency. Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, and lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs, as well as pushing/pulling with 20 lbs of force. The work environment involves exposure to fumes, odors, dust, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards, and requires the use of protective clothing and handling sharp utensils. Requirements

No Formal Education.
No experience required.
Basic knowledge in food service from within a hospital, hotel, restaurant or a related environment.
Ability to read and understand written and oral communications.
Good communication and customer service skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office or similar products.
Ability to use e-mail and internet.

Responsibilities

Assembles patient and mobile meal trays/meals in accordance with approved diet guidelines and portions while adhering to productivity standards.
Loads and transports food carts.
Delivers patient meal trays to patient rooms in accordance with established procedures.
May provide initial service to visitors in the cafeteria by serving food and maintaining the cleanliness of the cafeteria.
Responsible for operating cash register, handling cash and completing daily reports and cash register balance sheets as needed.
Performs cleaning duties using established sanitation procedures in the kitchen and cafeteria.
Washes pots, pans, and dishes according to established procedures.
Assists with preparation, delivery, setup, cleanup and presentation of catered and specialized events.
Assists with "special days/promotions", including decorating.
Displays daily specials for presentation to customers.
Coordinates the food preparation and presentation of all major catering.
Prepares snacks, beverages, sandwiches and other patient food items in accordance with standardized recipes and approved diet guidelines and portions while adhering to productivity standards.
Prepares, arranges, serves and replenishes supplies of food, beverages and condiments in retail areas and kitchen.
Prepares entrees, grill and deli sandwiches, and salads with an emphasis on food garnishing and presentation.
Replenishes food service areas to include supply of dishes, utensils, glassware, napkins and trays.
Delivers and stocks all nursing units, doctors' lounges, same day surgery and emergency rooms, following established procedures while adhering to productivity standards.
Monitors food temperatures and utilizes established procedures to ensure safe food handling techniques and prevent foodborne illness.
