About The Position

The Food Service and Hospitality Specialist at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is responsible for maintaining a functional, year-round food service program that supports GSWW camp properties across the council, with a primary service location at Camp River Ranch and occasional support at other properties as needed. This role enhances the guest experience through menu planning, food preparation and service, meal kit preparation and delivery, and maintaining safe and efficient food service operations in support of groups attending camp programs and events. As a member of the Hospitality Team, this position also supports camp operations by assisting with guest services, event support, preparation of program areas and supplies, and facilitation of camp activities such as archery, boating, team-building initiatives, and other outdoor programs when trained and needed. Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to interact positively and professionally with both internal and external stakeholders are essential to success in this role. This is a regular, full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt on-site role with the requirement of residency within reasonable proximity to the worksite located in Carnation, WA. While the full pay range is $23.08 to $25.69, this position will start at $23.08 per hour for purposes of internal pay equity. Requirements

  • Knowledge of food service operations, including menu planning and preparation for groups of various sizes in a camp, school, or institutional setting.
  • Ability to create menus compliant with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Washington State School nutrition standards.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, preparation, and storage practices in accordance with health and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in identifying risks, preventing accidents, and responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, seasonal staff, and camp personnel in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or stressful situations.
  • Ability to safely operate camp vehicles such as golf carts and 12-passenger vans as needed.
  • Physical ability to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds and work throughout camp, including walking on unpaved, uneven, or hilly terrain multiple times per day.
  • Ability to perform essential duties in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, weather, and physically demanding conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions, receive feedback, and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in commercial kitchen and/or quantity cooking
  • 21 years of age by start date
  • GSWW Kitchen Manager Training or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Washington State Food Worker Card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain through GSWW within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to support or facilitate camp program activities (e.g., archery, boating, or other outdoor program areas) as assigned.
  • Must reside within GSWW Council region of Western Washington, with preference for residence in reasonable proximity to worksite in Carnation, WA.
  • Must be available to work in a camp setting with a variable work week and potentially long hours, including early mornings, weekends, and evenings.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and a vehicle in working condition to fulfill travel requirements throughout Western Washington as needed
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background check
  • Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Girl Scout programming and/or camp settings preferred.
  • Experience providing oversight or coordination of staff and/or volunteers in a commercial kitchen or quantity cooking setting.
  • Experience delivering or transporting prepared food while maintaining proper food temperatures and food safety standards.
  • Experience supporting hospitality, retreat, or event-based guest services in a camp or outdoor recreation setting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees food service operations, including menu planning, ordering, and preparation of food and meal kits for groups attending camp programs and events.
  • Ensures safe food preparation and storage practices in accordance with applicable health, safety, and sanitation requirements.
  • Responds to emergencies in accordance with camp procedures and administers First Aid/CPR when trained and necessary, maintaining awareness of the safety of guests, staff, and volunteers during food service and camp operations.
  • Ensures kitchen, dining, and food storage areas and equipment are clean, organized, and maintained in good working order at all times.
  • Manages food service budget and purchasing, including invoice review and oversight.
  • Provides training and operational guidance to volunteers and seasonal staff on food service procedures and food safety across GSWW camp properties.
  • Provides on-site food service support at GSWW camp properties as needed.
  • Provides support to the Hospitality Team during guest programs and events, including assisting with group check-in/check-out, event hosting, and coordination with the Property Reservations Team as needed.
  • When trained and certified, assists with facilitating camp activities such as archery, boating, team-building initiatives, and other outdoor programs for internal and external groups.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining program spaces, supplies, and equipment to ensure readiness for scheduled reservations and camp programming.
  • Supports camp operations by assisting with event set-up, guest services, and other hospitality-related tasks that contribute to a safe and welcoming camp experience.
  • Builds positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and guests to support smooth operations and a positive camp experience.
  • Participates in camp life and supports the broader camp community by assisting with activities outside of food service operations, including campfires, staff training, meetings, and camp clean-up, while promoting Girl Scout program philosophies of GSUSA and GSWW.
