Food Safety Systems Manager Full-time | 1st Shift | In-office with intermittent travel Reports to: Food Safety & Quality Assurance Leadership ROLE OVERVIEW The Food Safety Systems Manager serves as the technical subject matter expert for enterprise-wide food safety standards, supporting stakeholders across plant operations, quality assurance, maintenance, sanitation, and new product development. This role is responsible for the development, execution, and continuous improvement of critical food safety systems and prerequisite programs across the Bell & Evans organization. As a key leader within FSQA, this position also acts as a project manager for cross-functional food safety initiatives, driving accountability, ownership, and organizational visibility while strengthening Bell & Evans’ culture of food safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Poultry Science, or a related technical field
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in food safety and quality assurance management within the food industry (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience
  • Advanced knowledge of food safety systems, microbiology, HACCP, and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced HACCP and/or PCQI for Human Food certification required
  • Experience implementing and maintaining GFSI standards
  • Ability to travel intermittently for business needs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in meat or poultry processing and/or animal agriculture
  • Prior experience serving as an SQF Practitioner
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development
  • Experience auditing or assessing suppliers, co-packers, or co-manufacturers

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve enterprise food safety programs, including pathogen interventions, sanitation, environmental monitoring, water reuse and reconditioning, food defense, food fraud, GMPs, and foreign material prevention
  • Evaluate food safety system effectiveness through monitoring activities and internal audits; drive accountability and compliance with program owners
  • Lead and manage cross-functional food safety improvement projects, serving as project manager by defining scope, identifying resources, and driving execution
  • Own and continuously improve the Copacker Management Program by establishing food safety, regulatory compliance, and animal welfare expectations; conduct risk assessments, audits, and facility assessments as needed
  • Serve as Chairperson of the Food Safety Culture Committee, driving engagement initiatives, internal communications, and training strategies using Intertek Alchemy
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators for critical food safety systems; identify trends, communicate risks, and support corrective action investigations
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) and Management of Change (MOC) processes by providing food safety guidance for products, processes, suppliers, and co-packers
  • Coach and develop direct reports by setting performance objectives, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting professional growth
  • Establish KPIs aligned with organizational objectives to measure success and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Proactively address food safety and quality concerns to ensure the production of safe, high-quality products
  • Support FSQA initiatives including internal and external audits, special projects, and other duties as assigned
