About The Position

Responsible for all operations at a central kitchen with food production and service to multiple centers, meeting Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and CYFS standards. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by ensuring that the food service operation runs smoothly and helps individuals and families in the community. Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a cook or comparable experience in food preparation and quantity cooking for large groups (150).
  • Must be able to prepare meals using whole food ingredients (cooking from ‘scratch’).
  • One year experience supervising others and managing a large commercial food service operation.
  • Experience and knowledge in food preparation techniques for children (ages 1-6 years old).
  • Experience purchasing large quantities of food.
  • Must hold and maintain current Food Safety and Sanitation Certificate.
  • Must provide certificate of completion of an approved first aid class to be evidenced within 90 days of hire.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License, acceptable driving record, and valid auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in preschool or school food service is preferred.
  • Fluency in two or more languages, including one that supports the needs of the program and community is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise food production staff and oversee food delivery to satellite centers.
  • Develop staff schedules and manage daily food production operations.
  • Monitor food inventory and supplies; order food and arrange purchases within budget while minimizing waste.
  • Ensure proper sanitation, maintenance, and organization of kitchen facilities, equipment, and delivery vehicles.
  • Enforce safe food handling and workplace safety practices.
  • Prepare and review CACFP records and required documentation.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of food produced and served.
  • Train new food service staff and volunteers.
  • Lead monthly central kitchen staff meetings and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Visit at least one center monthly and complete kitchen sanitation checklists.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development.
  • Support CAPSLO’s goals, follow all safety rules, and perform other duties as assigned.
