The Food Pantry Worker supports the operation of the food pantry by receiving food deliveries, organizing inventory, and assembling pantry bags for distribution. This role is hands-on and essential to ensuring community members receive food in a timely and organized manner. The schedule for this role is variable and non-traditional. Shifts are based on food delivery times and pantry distribution needs and may change week to week. Flexibility and reliability are essential. Advance notice is provided whenever possible, but exact start and end times may vary.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, up to 50 lbs., and carry boxes and bags of food.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliability and punctuality are required.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, task-oriented environment.
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing schedules and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and assist with unloading food deliveries.
  • Verify delivered items against packing lists when applicable.
  • Organize and store food items according to pantry guidelines.
  • Assemble approximately 70–85 food pantry bags per distribution cycle.
  • Ensure pantry bags are packed accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry and work areas.
  • Follow food safety, handling, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Communicate any delivery issues, shortages, or damaged items to staff.
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of pantry operations as needed.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as requested by the Vice President/Director.
