About The Position

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire a Focus Teacher.

Requirements

  • A valid Michigan Professional teaching certificate, a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with CTE Endorsement, or an industry credential that qualifies for Annual Career Authorization through the Lansing School District.
  • At least five (5) years successful teaching or training experience and demonstrated leadership
  • Successful and positive experience working with high school age students and diverse student populations.
  • Relevant work experience in a state-approved CTE program.
  • Proven expertise in research-based instructional strategies that engage students and yield positive academic gains.
  • Provide theme-based instruction to students in grades 9-12, engaging them in culturally relevant and industry specific learning experiences.
  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and train staff on project-based learning
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in establishing data-driven educational
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, using a multitude of platforms.
  • Willingness to fully participate in year-round local, state, and national Magnet conferences, trainings, meetings, and family and community engagement events. Demonstrated ability to work in multi-ethnic and multicultural learning environments, employing equitable and inclusive practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to engage with community and business partners as a resource in curriculum development, work-based learning opportunities, and postsecondary options.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a curriculum team that designs a 4-year CTE program of study (POS). The POS will integrate CTE content and instructional strategies across core subjects, non-core subjects, enrichment, extracurricular, and family learning experiences.
  • Support CTE High School teachers as they implement the State of Michigan CTE competencies and standards, and project-based learning strategies.
  • Plan and deliver program specific training and professional development activities for CTE High School staff.
  • Assist CTE High School administration and staff in establishing and implementing a school-wide public relations, marketing, and recruiting program that promotes CTE and targets potential enrollees (including Open House programs, promotional campaigns, individual and group demonstrations, and information sessions).
  • Collect data and document program results to be shared with various stakeholders, including the Project Director and MSAP Project
  • Work with CTE High School administration and staff to complete necessary documents to execute purchases allowable under the magnet
  • Assist the CTE High School administration and staff in developing and strengthening relationships with industry partners, institutions of higher education, and community leaders.
  • Provide and monitor work-based learning experiences for eligible students in their career pathway programs
  • Perform other duties consistent with MSAP’s project objectives of reducing and preventing racial isolation in magnet schools, improving academic achievement, implementing innovative classroom methods and practices and expanding student academic choices. Serve on the ARC (Academically Rigorous Choices) Advisory Board and individual CTE High School Advisory Boards.
