Management Level: Class 3 Summary of the Purpose and Objective The Scrap Handler is responsible for gathering defective product which has been discarded from the production lines and assisting the Production Supervisor and Leads in maintaining a clean work environment. ATTN Team Members: This position is slated for team members who are currently working at this facility or complex only.

Requirements

  • Use and read scales.
  • Must be able to use a calculator to figure scrap totals (add, subtract, divide, and multiply).
  • Must be able to read job related SOP documentation.
  • Must be able to write in scrap recordings in the log sheets and fill out production documentation completely and accurately.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires 100% flexibility of wrists and hands.
  • Walking, bending, standing and some lifting required.
  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to move heavy objects (500 lbs.) with mechanical devices including electric pallet jacks.
  • INTERNAL REQUIREMENTS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION: Openings for this position will be posted for three (3) working days utilizing the Tyson PersTime job-bidding program.
  • Must have been in their current position 90 days to demote or transfer to another shift or line.
  • Must have been in their current position 90 days to promote.
  • No more than four (4) attendance points at the time of job posting, in the last six (6) months.
  • No written warning at the time of job posting within the last six (6) months.
  • No suspensions at the time of job posting within the last six (6) months.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Scrap Handling Procedures as listed in the Production Manual, Section 8.0.
  • Keeps a legible accurate record as required including Scrap Handlers Log (PR8.2.1, PR8.2.2).
  • Maintains good manufacturing practices and personal hygiene.
  • Keeps department clean and neat.
  • Responsible for following company policies/procedures written or verbal.
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned.
  • Notifies Supervisor and QC of contamination.
  • Must be able to perform the Scrap Handlers Training Checklist (for applicable department; PR8.1A, PR8.1B) job tasks by the end of the 10 working day trial period.
  • Must adhere to all safety policies and operate equipment in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting any wear and tear on equipment.
  • Responsible for picking up scrap and discarding it into the properly labeled scrap modules.
  • Assures that only product that is contaminated, burnt, or unfit for regrind is going into the yellow scrap barrels.
  • Ensures that reusable product from the line is placed in the white barrels for regrind reprocessing.
  • Responsible for keeping scrap barrels clean and in good shape. Damaged scrap barrels are to be discarded.
  • Responsible for pushing scrap module back to shipping once it is full, weighing the scrap and dumping it properly and recording weights.
  • Responsible for cleaning out catch trays under the counter stacker and keeps the floor clean of debris.
