Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain professionalism with customers and coworkers.
  • Basic knowledge of perishability, seasonality, conditioning and handling of floral products; understanding of safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Good understanding of company practices and Floral Department policies.
  • Ability to frequently lift, reach and maneuver objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, stooping and reaching; ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Repetitive arm movements required for preparing, packaging and displaying products.
  • Manual dexterity and strong hand‑eye coordination required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Mental alertness required to ensure safe and accurate work.
  • Basic math skills and knowledge of weights/measures.
  • Knowledge of product varieties, standards, sanitation and labeling.
  • Ability to operate phones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, stem cutters, choppers, wires, staples, glue guns, spray paint, heat‑sealing machines and helium tanks.
  • Use of cleaning supplies and handling of latex products required.
  • Ability to operate computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays; schedule may vary.
  • Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and tools used in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly customer service.
  • Assist customers by offering product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling through phone, intercom and in‑person interactions.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer complaints appropriately and escalate to Store Director when needed.
  • Take special orders from customers by phone or in person.
  • Order balloons, helium tanks, plants, flowers, accessories and supplies. Ensure product freshness, quality and selection.
  • Monitor merchandising needs for special occasions, sales trends, ads, seasonal promotions and customer feedback.
  • Plan daily operations; oversee production processes in alignment with company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Upgrade plants, make bows, inflate balloons and prepare bouquets.
  • Create floral designs according to company standards.
  • Follow and maintain department standards for floral upgrades, balloon upgrades and candy arrangements.
  • Assist designers and sales employees in completing tasks as needed.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Maintain specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees.
  • Understand and oversee opening and closing procedures for the department.
  • Schedule, supervise, train and assign duties to department employees.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales procedures and record‑keeping processes.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure proper code‑date compliance for all products in the department.
  • Assist in personnel activities, including pre‑employment interviews, transfers, promotions and disciplinary actions.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Implement correct product preparation techniques and safely operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, stem cutters, choppers, wire, glue guns, spray paint, heat‑sealing machines and helium tanks.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking and rotating product.
  • Follow proper temperature, storage and packaging guidelines.
  • Properly condition and handle indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs and flowers; follow processing procedures for all cut flowers.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records.
  • Control shrink and manage departmental costs.
  • Ensure proper pricing, signage, sanitation, cleanliness and safety within the department and work areas.
  • Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Operate computer software and electronic ordering systems to order product.
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings; communicate sales goals, department performance and opportunities to employees.
  • Comply with and enforce company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Perform all duties safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity.
  • Perform other necessary and required duties as assigned.
