About The Position

The Alliance is seeking dynamic and compassionate individuals to join our J-Camp team in the roles of Float Counselor/Extended Day Counselor. Ideal candidates will have a background in education, experiential learning, camp spirit, STEM, the arts, athletics/movement, teambuilding, weekly field trips and/or Jewish learning background in education, experiential learning, camp spirit, and a passion for working with children in a variety of camp settings. A Float Camp Counselor for the Alliance’s J-Camp is responsible for stepping in when needed to lead and implement programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. Float Counselors are also responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and enjoyment of the participants in their group. Extended Day counselors are responsible for caring for the campers who stay past the normal camp day by providing activities and a safe space for them to play. Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Strong oral communications skills
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple needs.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Must attend all staff meetings and orientations during the summer season.
  • Highschool diploma or general education degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience with the company’s core values and a clear commitment to them
  • Familiar in education, experiential learning, mentoring, STEM, the arts, athletics/movement, teambuilding, and/or Jewish learning.
  • Working knowledge of the growth and development of elementary age children
  • Must have or willingness to obtain Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Must complete pre-employment screenings including a criminal background check
  • Must be able to swim and pass a swim test.
  • Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
  • Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children in an organized setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a group of campers, in structured and unstructured activities, acting as guardian, friend, mentor, and disciplinarian to all
  • Lead and assist in leading small and large group activities
  • Serve as a role model for all campers, acting properly while participating in all required activities with an enthusiastic attitude, including swimming, with the campers
  • Maintain all JCC standards, values and rules.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and the Director to ensure consistency
  • Set up, clean up and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor spaces and equipment
  • Actively supervise and ensure camper safety at all times
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
  • Maintain statistical records including daily attendance and meal counts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
