About The Position

Vexcel is hiring a Flight Planning Specialist to support aerial collection planning for the Vexcel Data Program, the world's largest aerial imagery program. This is a U.S. based remote role. Most of our team is remote across the U.S., supporting global aerial imagery operations. This role focuses on designing and optimizing flight plans for large scale aerial mapping and remote sensing missions. The Flight Planning Specialist works closely with operations, pilots, and technical teams to ensure collections meet quality, efficiency, and production requirements. This role is open to both junior and senior candidates. Responsibilities and scope will scale based on experience. The Flight Planning Specialist works closely with operations, production, and technical teams and is part of the Vexcel Data Program organization. For over 30 years, Vexcel has been the industry leader in the photogrammetric and remote sensing space, building market leading UltraCam sensors and providing a comprehensive library of cloud based geospatial data. Vexcel operates the largest aerial imagery program in the world, collecting high resolution imagery and geospatial data in more than 45 countries and territories. Its dedicated fleet of fixed wing aircraft captures imagery across the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, and Western Europe. Requirements

  • Experience with flight planning for aerial mapping or remote sensing operations, or strong foundational exposure for junior candidates.
  • Familiarity with flight planning tools or geospatial software used in mapping, surveying, or aviation environments.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and geospatial data including AOIs, terrain models, and vector files.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow and enforce collection specifications such as overlap, GSD, and terrain analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate with operations, pilots, and technical teams in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong problem solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare flight plans for aerial mapping and remote sensing missions.
  • Translate collection specifications into executable mission plans, including AOIs, overlap, GSD, and terrain considerations.
  • Use geospatial and flight planning tools to optimize coverage, efficiency, and data quality.
  • Collaborate with pilots, operations teams, and technical partners to execute successful collections.
  • Review and validate mission plans for accuracy and compliance with collection standards.
  • Support troubleshooting and adjustments during active collection programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and planning records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of flight planning workflows and standards.
  • Follow established operational procedures while adapting plans to real world constraints.
