About The Position

This position serves as a working supervisor of a team of air and ground transport Communications Specialists by scheduling, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, evaluating work performance, coaching, mentoring and delegating work to ensure the efficient and safe daily operations of the Intermountain Med Transport Communications Center. This supervisor also functions as a ground Communications Specialist and assists in taking calls to meet the full range of dispatch functions within the center when necessary. This role also supports the vision and values of Intermountain Health while maintaining compliance with regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards. Essential Functions Supervises a team of Communication Specialists as well as center operations and recommends improvements or modifications to work practices and caregiver performance as appropriate. Works proactively with caregivers to resolve performance issues at the lowest level, investigating and resolving complaints. Coordinates major med transport incidents to ensure proper notifications are made and the team has the appropriate support and coordination with incident command maintained. Promotes a positive work environment and engagement amongst caregivers and team/s. Applies a high level of initiative, and judgement in accomplishing operations oversight. Coaches, mentors and applies Med Transport Communication Center policies, procedures, and safety requirements in fast-paced air and ground medical transport environment Applies a high level of understanding of air and ground transport modalities (community-based medicine, non-emergent transport, BLS, ALS, CCT) in supervising team of air and ground medical transport Communications Specialists. Applies in-depth knowledge in Federal Communications Commission, (FCC), Federal Aviation Administration, (FAA) and other regulations and medical terminology in supervising team of air and ground medical transport Communication Specialists. Works with computer aided dispatch (CAD) in a non-emergent, emergent and scheduling environment

  • Robust dispatching experience in a public safety dispatch center such as 911, EMS or air or ground dispatch center
  • Demonstrated experience leading people, processes and teams
  • Intermediate computer proficiency
  • Typing speed at a minimum of 40 wpm

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced communications center environment such as 911, EMS, ground or air communication center
  • Prior experience with computer aided dispatch software (CAD)
  • Prior experience leading people in EMS role, Public Safety 9-1-1 center, aviation, or health system as a tech, certified nurse’s assistant (CNA), or medical assistant (MA)
  • Ongoing need for employees to see and read information, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers require employees to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computers, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
