About The Position

Providing Life’s Most Precious Resource. Position Summary The Fleet Technician 1 at Mustang Special Utility District carries out the maintenance and repair of the organization’s vehicle fleet. This role involves following the scheduled regular maintenance, ensuring safety and regulatory standards compliance, and maintaining detailed records of all fleet activities. The Fleet Technician 1 ensures all vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and efficiency standards. By effectively following the fleet maintenance program, the Fleet Technician 1 is vital in ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of the District’s vehicles, supporting the District’s mission to deliver exceptional utility services to the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  • Experience in medium to large scale fleet maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in adhering to safety protocols and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as ASE certification or Fleet Management Institute (FMI) certification are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Regular Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections for the fleet to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition and meet all safety standards.
  • Emergency Repairs: Perform emergency repair needs, ensuring minimal downtime for essential vehicles.
  • Vehicle Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to ensure they meet safety and operational standards. Identify mechanical issues and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Implement and adhere to a preventative maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and other routine services.
  • Component Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts such as belts, hoses, and filters. Ensure that all replacements meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintenance Records: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and vehicle mileage. Ensure accuracy and completeness of records for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Work Orders: Create, read and interpret work orders or descriptions of problems to determine the type and scope of repairs or maintenance required
  • Safety Standards: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Use protective gear such as safety shoes, gloves, and eyewear as required.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and vehicle inspections. Ensure documentation is accurate and readily available for audits and reporting purposes.
  • Resource Management: Manage inventory of parts and tools, ensuring that necessary supplies are available for timely repairs and maintenance.
