About The Position

The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for supervising and overseeing staff to ensure efficient and cost-effective handling of maintenance issues of fleet operations and highway buildings and grounds. Assists Fleet Manager with costs analyses and calculations to administer fleet maintenance and replacement program for all highway equipment. Assists in capital equipment replacement plan; Determines equipment replacement cycles with Fleet Manager; Assists with bid specifications for new equipment, assembly and receiving of equipment and fleet vehicles; coordinates the inspection of newly received vehicles/equipment preparation to accommodate departments' special requirements. Demonstrates exceptional fiscal management to maintain shop's financial stability; Adheres to the shop's annual budget for maintenance, parts, supplies, and equipment along with building and grounds repairs with Fleet Manager; completes review of fleet operations invoices as required to ensure proper account allocation; enters direct fleet charges in County Highway Equipment Microcomputer Systems (CHEMS) software. Practices motivational leadership to supervise and manage activities of staff; determines work procedures and schedules; develops methods for expediting workflow; reviews and approves timecards; promotes a safe work environment; Recommends and coordinates training needs on equipment, repairs, operation, and safety related activities with Fleet Manager; evaluates employee performance; coaches, and counsels staff to achieve improved performance and productivity; recommends corrective disciplinary action as needed to Fleet Manager; identifies individual training needs in order to achieve greater departmental performance and productivity. Participate as needed for decisions on hiring, retention, discipline, and other personnel matters; Assist with setting goals and objectives for fleet operations with Fleet Manager. The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently; reviews daily safety equipment inspection reports to ensure safe operations of all fleet equipment; schedules equipment repair and maintenance based on vehicle safety inspections, fleet program metrics and established preventative maintenance schedules; establishes and adjusts work schedules and procedures for equipment repair and maintenance projects to meet budget and completion deadlines and project specifications; interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assigns tasks accordingly. Ensures quality control procedures for the shop are met; confers with other supervisors, equipment operators, and workers on proper procedures for equipment handling and safety practices to minimize equipment breakdown or failure; researches, develops, and establishes job time standards for common repairs and preventative maintenance tasks. Communicates the status of fleet repairs with Field Operations Staff; coordinates preventive maintenance activities for equipment to ensure equipment availability when needed in the field. Monitor fleet warranties and recalls; ensure warrantable repairs are completed and reimbursed. Supervises inventory of supplies, parts, and materials for fleet operations, department vehicles, equipment, and facilities; stays current with new technology and basic knowledge required to troubleshoot and determine repairs; confers with equipment and other suppliers to keep abreast of changes in equipment, maintenance techniques, and current literature; recommends equipment replacement as required or needed. Assists as needed to orders parts and other inventory; accesses equipment specifications; monitors use of materials, equipment, and services; provides records and reports of equipment and facility operations, and repair costs to Fleet Manager. Supervises Highway Department building facilities repairs, remodeling, and cleanliness; coordinates with contractors such as plumbers, electricians, or other trades for buildings and grounds maintenance/repair; collaborates with Eau Claire County Facilities Department on building maintenance, as needed. Operates communications equipment between shop and field personnel to communicate and relay information; receives telephone and radio calls, determines nature of incident or emergency, and notifies appropriate authorities; communicates and relays information to supervisors and field crews. Provides back-up coverage to the Fleet Manager as required or assigned. Performs other related duties as required or assigned

Requirements

Associate degree or technical diploma with an emphasis in automotive repair, heavy equipment maintenance or related field.
Two (2) years of experience performing mechanic duties in automotive/heavy equipment and/or truck repair.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Position will require a pre-employment physical exam.
Position will be subject to pre-hire, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Must obtain a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License with no "L" (air brake) restriction within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter during employment.
