We are actively recruiting for a Fleet Safety Manager. The Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for leading and advancing the organization’s transportation safety strategy with a strong emphasis on driver coaching using Netradyne safety alerts and telematics data. This role translates real-time driving data into actionable coaching, training, and behavioral change to improve driver’s habits, reduce risk, and strengthen a proactive safety culture. This position oversees fleet safety operations, regulatory compliance, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives across a decentralized private fleet. The Fleet Safety Manager partners closely with drivers, leaders, and cross-functional teams to ensure every driver has the tools, coaching, and accountability needed to operate safely and return home safely each day.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and coaching skills with the ability to influence driver behavior positively.
  • Experience in transportation safety, fleet operations, or direct store distribution preferred.
  • Proficiency with telematics systems (Netradyne preferred), fleet software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into action.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations.
  • Ability to develop training programs and deliver constructive, impactful feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Smith System Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Certified Transportation Professional designation (or ability to obtain)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years in transportation, fleet safety, or related field
  • Valid Operator’s License
  • Class B CDL (or ability to obtain)
  • Minimum age: 21

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transportation safety, fleet operations, or direct store distribution preferred.
  • Proficiency with telematics systems (Netradyne preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary owner of the Netradyne camera and telematics program, including alert review, trend analysis, and coaching strategies.
  • Translate Netradyne safety alerts into structured, consistent, and constructive driver coaching conversations.
  • Identify patterns in driver behavior and design targeted coaching plans to improve habits and reduce safety events.
  • Partner with drivers and leaders to reinforce safe driving behaviors through ongoing feedback, recognition, and accountability.
  • Track coaching outcomes and measure improvements in safety metrics and driver performance.
  • Lead new driver safety orientation, ride-alongs, accident reviews, and remedial training.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings and distribute weekly safety communications.
  • Deliver Smith System training and other safety programs for vehicle operators.
  • Develop and maintain driver recognition programs tied to safety, attitude, and performance.
  • Create lesson plans and training materials that drive engagement and behavioral change.
  • Monitor and manage CSA scores and FMCSA/DOT compliance requirements.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of fleet vehicles, drivers, and safety processes.
  • Hours of Service records, accident reports, and training records.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies on incident response, near misses, and road complaints.
  • Analyze safety data, KPIs, and telematics insights to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Recommend and deploy enhancements in safety technology, processes, and training.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights to transportation leadership.
  • Partner with fleet, routing, operations, people center, and leadership to embed safety into daily operations.
  • Influence and support a culture where safety is shared responsibility and continuous improvement is expected.
  • Travel to remote facilities to provide training, coaching, and leadership support.
