About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Fleet Parts Specialist performs general and routine operations in the requisition, storage, distribution, and record keeping tasks for all materials, supplies, tools, and equipment used in the repair of automotive light duty cars, medium and heavy duty trucks, heavy equipment, and emergency vehicles.Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Researches and prepares purchase order requisitions and bid documentation to order parts and supplies; reviews vendor contracts and part catalogs; obtains competitive price quotes from vendors; updates vendor files; calculates costs of inventories. Maintains a clean and orderly stockroom; ensures efficient operations and distribution; ensures proper maintenance of records incidental of inventory, receipt of goods, and issuance of stock. Inspects incoming parts and supplies against invoices and reports deliveries as a basis for approving invoices for payment; monitors quantity, quality, and condition of goods received. Analyzes, forecasts, and estimates stock needs; consults and advises supervisor as to changes in inventory levels and reorders parts. Prepares supplies and materials for shipment; maintains perpetual inventory and stock records for ordering purposes. Organizes and participates in the taking on physical inventory; enters information from verbal or written sources into the computer or onto proper forms; makes routine entries to record the status of materials or information; composes correspondence to communicate or request information. Maintains close contact with vendors regarding availability of parts and alternative sources of supply; contacts vendors on shipment discrepancies or for information on items that may be delayed or difficult to obtain; returns obsolete parts to vendors for credit. Prepares reports as requested. Assumes additional duties performed by the Warehouse Supervisor in his/her absence. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate AND Six (6) months of experience performing general stockroom or inventory functions on an automated inventory system.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Knowledge of - Storeroom and warehouse methods and procedures
  • Physical inventories, accounting, and record keeping
  • Tools, parts, materials, and supplies used in maintenance, construction, and other repair work
  • Office procedures and appliances
  • Bookkeeping procedures, formats, and systems
  • City policies and procedures
  • Business English, arithmetic, and fundamentals of bookkeeping
  • Skill in - Interpreting City policies and procedures
  • Making mathematical calculations and tabulations
  • Keeping stock records and making reports
  • Reviewing, checking, and classifying information with established terms
  • Operating various equipment and tools
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships
  • Operating a computer and related software

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Parts Specialist Certification in automotive and medium/heavy duty truck parts is preferred.
  • One (1) year preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
