About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for proactive maintenance and repair of our diverse fleet, including light- and medium-duty gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles, trailers, and specialized equipment. Your mission is to maximize fleet uptime and ensure every vehicle leaving the shop meets the highest standards of safety and performance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in automotive, fleet, or equipment maintenance
  • Experience with welding, small engine repairs, and trailer repairs required
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with clean driving record required (CDL not required but a plus)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs overhead
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work in tight spaces
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable working around environmental risks (bees, pollen, poison ivy, fumes, thorns, etc.)
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must present yourself in a professional, polite, and respectful manner
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain service records and coordinate with the production team
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must wear sturdy work shoes/boots, company uniforms, and assigned PPE

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with diesel engines is a strong plus
  • CDL not required but a plus

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Inspections: Systematically inspect trucks, trailers, and equipment to identify issues before they cause downtime.
  • Mechanical Repairs: Perform minor to mid‑level repairs (brakes, alternators, starters, electrical systems, suspension, steering, cooling systems).
  • Small Engine Repair: Diagnose and repair 2‑stroke and 4‑stroke engines, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, saws, and other handheld or commercial small equipment.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Perform basic welding (MIG/TIG/Stick acceptable) for repairs on trailers, equipment frames, brackets, and metal components.
  • Trailer Service: Repair and maintain trailers, including brakes, hubs, wiring, lights, tires, decking, hitches, and structural components.
  • Tire Service: Perform tire changes, balancing, and repairs for fleet vehicles and trailers.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Conduct scheduled oil changes, filter replacements, fluid flushes, belt/chain adjustments, and safety checks.
  • Trailer Maneuvering: Safely drive, tow, and maneuver company trailers of various sizes for testing, transportation, and positioning within lot/shop areas.
  • Parts Management: Identify needed parts, source and order them, and track inventory to reduce repair delays.
  • Service Documentation: Maintain accurate digital/physical records for all repairs, mileage, parts, PM schedules, and inspections.
  • Shop Stewardship: Keep the shop clean, organized, safe, and professional. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure all repairs and shop activities comply with OSHA standards and internal safety protocols.
  • Fleet Safety: Verify that all vehicles meet Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) requirements before being returned to service.
  • Chemical & Tool Safety: Follow all safety procedures when working with fuels, oils, chemicals, welding equipment, power tools, and moving machinery.
  • PPE: Wear company‑provided eye, ear, and PPE protection as required.
