The Fleet Manager oversees all aspects of Moon Valley Nurseries’ company-wide vehicle and equipment fleet, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective operations. This role is responsible for vehicle acquisition, maintenance scheduling, regulatory compliance, driver safety programs, and the overall performance of the fleet and mechanic team. The ideal candidate is highly organized, knowledgeable in FMCSA/DOT standards, and skilled in managing both vehicles and people in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.

  • Manage end-to-end vehicle acquisition, including sourcing, purchasing, upfitting, and deployment.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance scheduling, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure full compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, including audits, reporting, and documentation.
  • Lead, schedule, and support the mechanic team across all locations; ensure timely and efficient repair operations.
  • Maintain vehicle safety programs, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage fleet documentation, including titles, registrations, licensing, permitting, and renewals.
  • Oversee driver safety programs, including CDL tracking, MVR monitoring, telematics, training compliance, and remediation.
  • Implement and maintain Smith System® driver training requirements and certifications.
  • Track fleet metrics, repair costs, utilization, and vehicle lifecycle to support data-driven decisions.
  • Partner with leadership, operations, and HR to support fleet needs across the organization.
  • 5+ years of fleet management experience, preferably in a multi-state or high-volume fleet environment.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations and commercial vehicle requirements.
  • Experience leading mechanic or maintenance teams.
  • Proficient in fleet management systems, maintenance scheduling tools, and vehicle tracking software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage budgets, track fleet performance, and evaluate costs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation Management, or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
  • Smith System® Driver Training Certification required (or ability to obtain shortly after hire).
  • Additional fleet, transportation, or safety certifications (NAFA, ASE, DOT compliance) are a plus
