About The Position

The Public Works Fleet Division is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician I to join the team. This position performs maintenance and repairs on Unified Government-owned vehicles & equipment. This role is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of the fleet.

Requirements

• All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire.
• As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen.
• And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
• High school or GED; experience in repair and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills and knowledge sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.
• Able to obtain CDL Class B Drivers License with airbrake endorsement within the first six months.
• Valid KS Driver’s License is required.

Nice To Haves

• ASE certification is preferred, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and major repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Conduct chassis and suspension repairs, including alignments as needed.
• Service automotive and vehicle air conditioning systems (requires proper certification).
• Perform welding and fabricating tasks as needed.
• Provide emergency road service when required.
• Operate equipment during emergencies within Wyandotte County.
• Assist other technicians and support division operations as directed by the supervisor, including tasks related to the car wash, fuel pumps, gates, and other assigned duties.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
