About The Position

We are currently seeking to fill our Fitness & Recreation Specialist (Part-Time) position at the Philadelphia campus with a highly qualified and passionate individual. Position Summary Assist Athletic & Recreational Manager in the management, coordination and implementation of various programming run at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Requirements

  • College course work in Exercise Science, Recreation Management, or other Physical Education discipline preferred.
  • A certification in a health or fitness discipline preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from the American Heart Association (AHA) training will be necessary.
  • 2 years of previous experience in a gym, recreational facility or organized athletic program.
  • Constant walking and moving, along with climbing up-and down stairs.
  • Lifting weight and moving heavy equipment.
  • Physically being able show and demonstrate bio-mechanical movements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors/checks all floors and levels in the facility, particularly the strength and cardiovascular area, basketball court, game room and study-testing areas.
  • Is familiar with the operation and function of all cardiovascular and strength training equipment within the facility.
  • Performs general maintenance, cleaning and repairs as needed to Athletic, Health and Wellness equipment located on the PCOM Campus.
  • Posts and reports any malfunctions or breakdowns in equipment to the Athletic & Recreational Manager and/or the Plant Operations/Maintenance Department.
  • Respond to forms of communication from the PCOM Staff within a 48-hour period
  • Help ensure the safety and overall wellbeing of any participants within the PCOM Facility or on the PCOM Field.
  • Be able to instruct or supervises Group Fitness classes.
  • Supervises Intramural Activities that take place on the PCOM Campus which can include assisting officials and timekeepers.
  • Set-up, arrange and neatly store equipment necessary for specific Athletic, Health and Wellness activities in the PCOM Facility and on the PCOM Field.
  • Create and post information for Athletic, Health and Wellness events held on the PCOM Campus, through the PCOM computer system, email service, electronic sign system and internal bulletin boards on campus.
  • Assists with any PCOM group or organizations who are conducting a pre-arranged Athletic, Health and Wellness event on the PCOM Campus that was approved by the Athletic & Recreation Manager.
  • Work as a liaison between the Fitness and Recreation Staff and the PCOM Staff and PCOM Students
  • Take a position of leadership in helping resolve any conflict situation that occurs within the PCOM Facility and communicate any of these issues or situations with the Athletic & Recreation Manager, PCOM Security Department or Student Affairs Department when necessary.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • Be able to work varying shifts which will include nights & weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Athletic & Recreation Manager.
