About The Position

At Stony Brook Medicine, the Fit Tester is a valuable member of our Employee Health and Wellness team. This position is primarily responsible for fit testing as part of the respiratory protection program. Duties of a Fit Tester include but are not limited to the following: Confirm medical clearance for employee to be fit tested. Conduct quantitative fit testing, as per OSHA Respiratory Protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134) and Hospital policy. Conduct qualitative fit testing, as needed. Document the results of fit testing and all fit testing related data (respirator sizes, etc) upon completion of fit testing. Provides education and consult to respirator users on how to ensure a proper seal, how to don and doff respirators and other related items. Provides support and encouragement to users during fit testing, using appropriate techniques to help the user obtain a proper seal and fit. Coordinate with supervisor to ensure an appropriate follow up evaluation and alternative solutions for any employee who is unable to pass the fit test. Monitor fit testing supplies on a weekly basis and order replenishments as needed, ensuring adequate supply levels at all times. Conduct daily checks of Portacount when in use under direction of the Fit Testing Specialist. Ensure all needed supplies and equipment are on hand and ready for use before fit testing. Mains the cleanliness and orderliness of the fit testing area(s) as well as of all supplies and equipment. Enter data from quantitative and qualitative fit testing results into Peoplesoft and/or other prescribed databases as directed by the Fit Testing Specialist. Supports the Employee Health and Wellness program with employee health data entry related to flu vaccines, annual physicals, etc as needed. Support EH&W campaigns including but not limited to fit testing, flu prevention programs, annual physicals, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. Selected candidate needs to have hours flexibility should the needs of the position require it.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or, in lieu of degree, a High School Diploma and at least 1 year of healthcare experience
  • Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Upon hire, must complete TSI Portacount training and demonstrate proficiency in Portacount quantitative fit testing
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
