About The Position

The Biological Science Technician will serve for 12 weeks during the summer, working closely with Fish Biologists to culture various fish and turtle species including American paddlefish, alligator gar, alligator snapping turtles, channel catfish, and sunfish species, with maintenance support duties.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must have own transportation as the Hatchery is fairly remote
• Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger
• Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States

Nice To Haves

• The ability to work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to perform manual labor using basic hand tools
• Load 50lb feed sacks into the bed of a utility vehicle

Responsibilities

• Care & feeding of American Paddlefish, Alligator Gar, Alligator Snapping Turtle, and Channel Catfish eggs and juveniles to include daily feeding, cleaning tanks, and conducting water quality on all tanks and/or ponds
• Helping staff Biologists to conduct prophylactic and therapeutic drug treatments for all fish and turtles by calculating tank/pond volumes and water flows
• Sample counting fish populations in tanks/ponds to estimate growth
• Helping to load fish for distribution
• Transporting fish to stocking waters and helping to offload fish/turtles
• Performing grounds maintenance such as mowing weed eating, pond maintenance, and trail maintenance
• Helping with Oklahoma Fish & Wildlife Conservation staff to net invasive Carp species in local rivers
