About The Position

The Region 6 Hatchery Program is seeking to fill a Fish Hatchery Manager II position at the Hot Creek Hatchery. Under direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent supervises up to 9 employees, is responsible for administering a fingerling, sub and catchable trout program, broodstock program for brown and rainbow trout, meeting annual production goals, and ensuring standardized fish culture practices are strictly followed. Hires, trains, supervises, schedules work assignments and evaluates performance for seven permanent staff. Supervises monitoring of water quality parameters and makes adjustments or improvements as needed to achieve and maintain optimal conditions for intensive trout production. Supervises, administers and has overall responsibility for monitoring hatchery water discharge, maintaining compliance with criteria set forth in Waste Water Discharge (NPDES) Permit adopted and enforced by Regional Water Quality Control Board and monitors influent and effluent water, prepares and submits monthly reports. Provides courteous and accurate information to sportsman,local businesses, news media and civic organizations.

Requirements

  • Ability to swim at least 50 yards, stay afloat at least five minutes
  • Able to move 40 pounds and do heavy manual labor
