About The Position

Serves as an assistant to the Hatchery Complex Manager and acts as the lead supervisor to perform the most critical and complex tasks associated with managing a production scale fish hatchery. This includes coordinating and directing all the technical tasks needed in hatchery operations, to meet annual fish production goals and the added responsibility of supervising and training multiple culturists, and assigning work on a daily basis. $1,000.00 rental stipend in addition to salary until home is constructed. Must live within 15 minutes of hatchery to respond to emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or related field from a regionally accredited college or university
  • 24 months of qualifying experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively perform the duties of the position
  • Requires a valid Washington State Driver’s License with appropriate CDL tanker endorsements or obtain within 6 months of employment and be eligible for the Colville Tribes vehicle insurance. Must maintain license and endorsements throughout employment.
  • May be required to possess and maintain a Washington State Department of Agriculture Private Operator Pesticide License, Washington State Boater’s Education certification, and/or First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Requires Fish biology, fish physiology, water chemistry parameters, fish pathology and environmental disease and their symptoms.
  • Requires working knowledge of fish genetics and nutritional and environmental requirements of fish.
  • Requires the ability to implement and manage programs.
  • Requires the ability and skill to supervise employees.
  • Requires the ability and skill to train employees.
  • Requires the ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.

  • Requires the ability to be in good physical condition: able to stand for long periods of time, lift a minimum of 50 lbs., navigate in and out of confined spaces, climb ladders, and work in inclement weather.

  • Requires speech and hearing ability to project voice to small and large audiences, carry on telephone conversations, hear and grasp verbal communications and equipment prompts.
  • Requires the ability to travel for meetings, training and conference participation as necessary and drive in inclement weather.
  • Requires background clearance (tribal, state) and must maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Must live within 15 minutes of hatchery to respond to emergencies.
