About The Position

The State of Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is looking to hire a Fiscal/Administrative Assistant to support a variety of tasks within the Drinking Water Fiscal Services unit. The Fiscal/Administrative Assistant will be responsible for coordinating loan agreements, payment disbursements, cash management, and compiling and producing financial and program data for required reports and audits in addition to performing other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective fiscal administration and compliance of the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) program.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in complex clerical work in one or more fiscal/administrative functions such as accounting, accounts examining, budget management, grant administration, payroll, or purchasing.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping, financial record keeping and basic governmental accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of basic procedures of budget preparation and control
  • Knowledge of payroll procedures, purchasing procedures and contract preparation
  • Skills interpersonal skills
  • Skills oral and written communication skills
  • Considerable ability in arithmetic computations
  • Ability to audit financial documents
  • Ability to understand and apply statutes and regulations
  • Ability to utilize EDP systems for financial management

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with accounts payable or purchasing operations
  • Experience presenting financial reports to organization leadership
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Core-CT or similar financial reporting system
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Excel
  • Experience with financial audit principles and practices
  • Experience with accounting and budgeting principles and practices
  • Experience interpreting state and federal regulations
