About The Position

First-Year Adviser- Lyon College is seeking a First-Year Adviser to provide positive and enthusiastic guidance and support to incoming first-year college students in a way that aligns with the College's mission and objectives. First-Year Advisers also encourage comprehensive growth through advising, mentoring, coaching, curricular support, and co-curricular involvement. Reporting directly to the Director of First-Year Advising, the First-Year Advisor implements retention-oriented outreach and programming in addition to their active engagement in various on-campus recruiting and orientation events. All First-year advisors uphold strong and cooperative professional relationships with faculty, staff, academic departments, athletics, and other departments on campus that focus on students' success.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• minimum of 1 year of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services within a higher education setting
• strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills
• can work effectively with diverse student populations
• proficient in student advising software, academic tracking systems, and data management tools
• demonstrates a clear commitment to student success and retention while fostering an inclusive learning environment
