Job SummaryThe 1st Grade Teacher creates a faith-filled, nurturing, and academically enriching environment for first-grade students. This role includes planning and delivering instruction in early literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills while integrating Catholic values into daily routines. The teacher supports the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social development of young learners and collaborates closely with colleagues, administrators, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field required.
  • Valid teaching certification (state and/or diocesan) required or in progress.
  • Practicing Catholic strongly preferred; must support the mission of Catholic education.
  • Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience preferred, especially in early elementary or 1st grade.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction in religion, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
  • Teach early literacy, phonics, handwriting, number sense, and foundational academic skills.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, Gospel values, and prayer into lessons and classroom life.
  • Create a nurturing, well-managed environment that supports academic and social development.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs.
  • Foster positive behavior, responsibility, and respect grounded in Catholic values.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records for achievement, attendance, and behavior.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about progress and expectations.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, Mass, and other assigned activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to promote student success.
  • Model Catholic values and contribute to the spiritual life of the school community.
