The Miami Valley School is seeking a part-time Lower School Teaching Assistant (First Grade) committed to developing critical and creative thinkers who collaborate and communicate effectively. This new faculty member will be joining a team that strives to represent the diversity of the MVS community by creating and implementing culturally inclusive and responsive curricula as well as demonstrating a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles. The first grade assistant teacher must be passionate and skillful, eager to invest their talents in our Lower School school program. They must establish a supportive and engaging environment for Lower School school students, work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a desire to embrace the MVS Immersion Method™ into their teaching. In this position you will be an assistant in a classroom with first grade students.

  • Undergraduate Degree in Education preferred
  • Desire to work with younger students in an experiential setting

Responsibilities

  • Assist a first grade teacher in the Lower School
  • Lead/Co-lead 2 week Mini Immersion in January
  • Assist in developing and proposing new units each year, including new LS Immersions
  • Fulfill all other faculty responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, including giving input to the semester progress reports and planning, attending school-related functions, which include but are not limited to: Caregiver Information Night (CIN), Caregiver-Teacher Conferences, Promotion Ceremonies, Graduation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
