About The Position

Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced First Class Machinists for projects located in and around Newport News, VA . This is a full time opportunity with a pay range of up to $27.31/hour based on experience plus $140/Per Diem to Travelers 60+ miles from the job site. Job Scope: Install, align, and test main propulsion plant machinery and support systems Overhaul and maintain valves, pumps, turbines, and heat exchangers Perform boiler operations, hydrostatic testing, and lube oil flushing Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings Install and test systems such as: Anchor windlass, aircraft/weapon elevators, hydraulic systems Steam plant, AC & refrigeration units, distilling plant systems Operate machine tools: lathes, boring bars, portable milling/drilling machines Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, etc.) for alignment and fit Conduct system grooming and ensure cleanliness to shipyard standards Comply with OSHA and shipyard safety regulations Support installation of additional systems such as: Condenser tubes, winches, ballast tanks, arresting gear, diesel systems, and more

Requirements

  • DOD clearance required
  • Minimum 4 years of commercial/naval experience as a First-Class Machinist
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, steam, and hydraulic systems
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards related to shipbuilding
  • Ability to work from complex technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience in the use of precision measuring tools and alignment procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with: ALRE systems , steam valves, sea valves, and pump/motor alignment
  • Boiler tube replacements and steam turbine installation
  • System optical alignment and cleanliness inspections
  • Ability to operate and maintain watertight compartments and noise equipment
  • Knowledge of air and fuel systems , shipboard HVAC, and AC/refrigeration components
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team on high-spec government projects
