The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for Full Time Firefighter/EMT Recruit in the Department of Fire and Rescue. Salary is estimated to be $50,578 at the completion of recruit school and EMT training. This does not include holidays. RECRUIT SCHOOL TRAINING CONSISTS OF TWO PHASES: FIREFIGHTER TRAINING Fire Recruit school is approximately 12 weeks long. Typically, each day begins with physical fitness training, which involves running, strength training, or drills that will develop both personal fitness and teamwork. Recruits will have both classroom instruction and hands on training in a field environment on the fire ground, utilizing the IFSTA training manual 8th edition, "Essentials of Fire Fighting and Fire Department Operations". Recruits will physically demonstrate techniques on the fire training ground that they learned in the classroom environment. During the 12-week school, fire recruits will be tested for NPQ Firefighter I, II and NPQ Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations level to become certified Georgia firefighters. EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRAINING Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Recruit School is approximately 9 weeks. The EMT Recruit training will include working alongside professional emergency responders to learn and practice basic skills as a first responder. EMT Recruit training will include clinical rotations on the ambulance. Clinical rotations provide the opportunity to experience real-life situations and allow hands-on use of practical skills taught in the classroom. The typical 8-hour classroom day contains both lecture and practical exercise components. Recruits must pass all major testing during the basic EMT training, which includes weekly tests and a BCFR Final Exam. Once the recruits have successfully completed the BCFR final exam and practical, they must pass the National Registry of EMT's written test for the EMT level.
