Newnan Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Respond to fire and emergency aid alarms; perform firefighting activities including operating firefighting equipment; lay and connect hoses, hose nozzles, and direct fog, chemical, and water streams; raise and climb ladders; use chemical extinguishers, ropes, or related equipment to perform fire combat, confinement, and extinguishment tasks. Perform salvage and overhaul activities such as throwing protective covers, sweeping water, moving items from burned areas and removing debris. Rescue individuals from danger in situations that could involve fire, chemical, or biological agents, explosive atmospheres, entrapment, or entanglement in vehicles or machinery; use a variety of power and hand tools. Respond to request for medical assistance; administer first aid/CPR; assist emergency medical service providers with ill or injured patients by bandaging, splinting, back boarding, extricating, triage, and taking vital signs. Maintain fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities; identify equipment problems; make repairs to simple problems and refer other problems to designated staff or supervisor. Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; clean and wash walls and floors; care for grounds around the stations and make minor repairs; perform assigned housekeeping duties including making beds and cleaning sleeping and living areas. Wash and dry fire hose; perform hose test as required; wash, clean, polish, and maintain fire apparatus; participate in annual pump testing. Check fire hydrants for accessibility and water pressure; clean and paint around hydrants. Assist in developing plans for special assistance such as emergency preparedness, hazardous communications, hazardous/biological agents, and emergency aid activities. Participate in ongoing training and education in areas such as fire suppression, first aid, and hazardous materials. Assist the public as needed in emergency and non-emergency situations.
