About The Position

Under the direction of the Fire Chief and supervision of the Station Officer, the Firefighter EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for the care, operation and condition of fire apparatus and equipment. The role provides the City with prevention and mitigation of emergencies and disasters through proper planning, public education and code enforcement. This position responds to emergencies involving fire, medical and environmental concerns and may be assigned administrative duties including training and equipment management.

Requirements

  • Requires valid Utah Driver’s License
  • State of Utah Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification (for Firefighter/EMT)
  • State of Utah Paramedic certification or National Registered Paramedic (for Firefighter/Paramedic)
  • Must successfully complete Sandy City required recruit training academy class (Utah State Firefighter I and II Certification, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level Certification, Apparatus Driver Operator (ADO), Wildland Firefighter Certification)
  • All certifications and skills must be maintained throughout tenure of this position
  • Knowledge of firefighting skills
  • Knowledge of emergency medical procedures
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of uniform fire code, Fire Department policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of inspection procedures
  • Knowledge of sprinkler systems
  • Knowledge of alarm and communication procedures
  • Responsibility for the use of discretion and judgment in emergency situations
  • Great responsibility for the care, condition and use of department apparatus and equipment
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to write reports
  • Must pass drug test before hire
