About The Position

The Firefighter / Driver-Operator (D/O) plays a critical role in emergency response operations, including fire suppression, medical aid, rescue, and hazardous materials incidents. This position involves operating various fire apparatus, executing emergency procedures, and supporting fire prevention and public education efforts. The role ensures operational readiness and compliance with NFPA, DoD, and organizational standards. Minimum 3 years of experience in DoD or equivalent fire service.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Pass annual CPAT and participate in DoDI 6055.06 fitness program.
  • Maintain licensing per NAVFAC P-300, OPNAVINST 5100.12, and TA-3000.
  • Certified in EVOC, AVOC, and possess a government driver’s license.
  • Proficient in NFPA and DoD firefighting standards.
  • Capable of operating under high-stress conditions in full PPE and SCBA.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Pass annual health exams and SCBA fit testing.
  • Eligible for overseas deployment and CAC issuance.
  • DoD/IFSAC/Pro Board: Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator – ARFF & Pumper
  • HAZMAT Awareness & Operations (with mission-specific competencies)
  • Adult First Aid / CPR / AED
  • FEMA: IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, IS-400, IS-700, IS-800
  • National Registry EMR/EMT or DoD equivalent
  • High school diploma required

Responsibilities

  • Respond to structural, aircraft, wildland, shipboard, and vehicle fires, hazardous materials incidents, and medical emergencies.
  • Operate fire apparatus (pumper, ARFF, water tender, ladder truck) per NAVFAC P-300 and OPNAVINST 5100.12.
  • Perform firefighting tasks including suppression, rescue, ventilation, and overhaul.
  • Conduct hydraulic calculations and manage pump operations.
  • Provide emergency medical care as an EMR or EMT.
  • Support standby operations for aircraft, pier, and shipboard fire protection.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on fire apparatus and equipment.
  • Document deficiencies and coordinate repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and supplies.
  • Conduct fire inspections, pre-incident planning, and life-safety surveys.
  • Deliver fire safety education and training.
  • Participate in drills, live-fire exercises, and annual evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records of responses, training, inspections, and equipment status.
  • Operate fire alarm and radio systems in line with SOPs.
  • Support compliance with departmental metrics and contract standards.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out assignments from leadership and support safety and improvement initiatives.
