About The Position

As a Firearms Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing new firearms and components, improving existing platforms, and driving engineering projects that define the next generation of Weatherby products. Your work will influence everything from prototypes to production, ensuring our firearms deliver the performance, safety, and craftsmanship Weatherby is known for. The Firearms Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of firearm products and components from concept through production. This role supports R D, prototype creation, testing, troubleshooting, design improvements, fixture and equipment development, and engineering documentation. The position collaborates cross-functionally with Quality, Production, Planning, Marketing, and vendors to ensure successful launches and continuous product improvement.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, and 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in project design and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
  • Experience with firearms usage and design, or with designing complex mechanical products.
  • Proficiency in managing design packages using CAD, PDM, GD&T, and identifying critical product features.
  • Experience with FEA software, material properties, and material selection.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, metal finishing, heat treating, polymer molding, and metal injection molding.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to trade shows and vendor facilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a highly collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new firearm products and related components.
  • Translate product requirements into cost-effective mechanical designs.
  • Manage design projects including prototyping, testing, and evaluation.
  • Evaluate, validate, and approve engineering drawings and models.
  • Improve existing products through mechanical redesign.
  • Evaluate alternative components, materials, and processes to improve performance, reduce cost, or enhance efficiency.
  • Create product validation tests based on product requirements.
  • Mentor associate engineers and test technicians.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product-related issues in collaboration with Quality and Production.
  • Support vendors by answering technical questions and providing component and product-related guidance.
  • Review and proof assembly procedures and technical documents.
  • Work with Marketing, Production, and Planning to support smooth product launches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
