About The Position

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is the leading voice of the fire sprinkler industry. We advocate for fire safety, support our members, and advance training, codes, and innovation in water-based fire protection systems. Our mission is simple but vital: to save lives and protect property from fire through the widespread acceptance of fire sprinklers. Every position at NFSA contributes directly to life safety—and this internship is no exception. Internship Overview NFSA is seeking highly motivated engineering students for a Fire Protection Engineering Internship during Summer 2026. This role is ideal for students interested in fire sprinkler system design, codes and standards, and real-world fire protection engineering applications. As an NFSA intern, you will work alongside nationally recognized fire protection professionals who actively shape NFPA codes and standards. You will gain rare exposure to the technical, educational, and advocacy sides of the fire protection industry—experience that sets this internship apart.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in: Fire Protection Engineering Mechanical Engineering Civil Engineering Chemical Engineering Or a related technical discipline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and professional
  • Self-motivated with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Eligible to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior fire protection engineers in providing technical support to NFSA members
  • Help develop informal code interpretations through NFSA’s Engineering On-Demand (EOD) Program
  • Participate in NFSA industry events, training programs, and educational initiatives
  • Support side-by-side burn demonstrations, including trailer setup and logistics
  • Engage in NFSA training opportunities, including the Layout Technician Pathway Program
