The role of Project Designer/Engineer is a strong technical designer that can work independently to take portions of a project from start to finish. They ensure that projects are designed and documented according to the parameters set by the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited university or college or a two year associates degree with 5 years related experience required.
  • At least 3-6 years of related fire alarm or fire protection systems design experience.
  • Able to apply knowledge gained through experience to new and novel designs

Responsibilities

  • Works independently to take portions of a project from start to finish based on direction from the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record.
  • Performs routine code review and analysis.
  • Performs routine design calculations for sprinkler/fire alarm systems.
  • Follows design standards set by the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record.
  • Researches and presents fire protection system design options to the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record.
  • Follows company master design standards.
  • Ensures that the QA/QC process is followed and documented.
  • Develops a working knowledge of all system types within their discipline.
  • Develops knowledge of current design trends and best practices.
  • Directs less experienced technical staff in how to perform routine design tasks and routine calculations.
  • Trains less experienced staff how to use master design tools and standards.
