Fire Deputy Chief of Training and Safety The Training and Safety Division is responsible for development and implementation of a training program that meets or exceeds, Local, State and Federal training mandates. The division is also responsible for the health and safety program (HSO) for the department. This includes both on and off the scenes for emergency operations as incident safety officer (ISO). JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Under the direction and guidance of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the daily activities of the fire department’s operational, training and safety functions. Responsibilities include aiding in the preparation and administration of training division budget, coordination of safety related issues, and the planning and organization of the division’s in alignment with department goals. The Deputy Chief of Training and Safety serves as a liaison between the Fire Chief and other departments within the Shipyard, any internal or external committees, and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support of the Fire Chief, and in addition the Deputy Chief serves as the Health and Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer. He or she may take command responsibilities at both emergency and non-emergency incidents if needed.
