About The Position

The Finish Tech I is a member of the New Dock Production team. The purpose is to position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products that results in a finished aluminum boat dock, which includes floatation, roofing, and other not metal products. They perform by using hand tools, power tools and heavy equipment. They understand and implement personal and company safety measures by wearing specialized protective equipment and how to work around large moving parts and machinery. The Finish Tech I is in training on how to build aluminum boat docks but is a semi-skilled with basic knowledge and experience in construction materials, hand and power tools, safety.

Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge and experience on use of specialized equipment, systems, hand tools, including power tools and techniques that is appropriate for the area(s) of specialization.
  • Intermediate Knowledge in construction and building, including materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair or houses, buildings, or other structures.
  • Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of safety guidelines and safety equipment usage.
  • Intense mindfulness and consideration of what is going on around you and being able to change your activities according to what is needed.
  • Understanding the implications of new information and how to apply it.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to continuously improve in heavy equipment operation, (i.e., Lull)
  • Requires at least 1 (one) year of on-the-job training or any combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specs, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Align and fit parts or workpieces according to specs, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, drills, and hammers.
  • Move parts into position manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Operate Lull when required by supervisor.
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed per specs for assembly.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files or portable grinders.
  • Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces, using measuring devices, squares chalk and soapstone.
  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position.
  • Erect, take down, adjust, or move ladders and scaffolding.
  • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
  • Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, or straightening presses.
  • Smooth workpiece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves.
  • Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand old, new, or changing tasks or processes, asking questions as appropriate and learning from more seasoned workers.
  • Ability to learn safety procedures and processes, including wearing required PPE.
