About The Position

The Financial Systems Specialist delivers professional services and financial solutions to the organization. This role ensures that policies, programs, services, and strategies are conceptualized, developed, and implemented. The Financial Systems Specialist will act as a consultative partner by providing expertise, analysis, and advice to internal and external stakeholders to BCLC to enable the business to deliver on operational and financial reporting efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • An accredited professional accounting designation;
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline;
  • 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of principles of accounting with the ability to apply them in a practical way;
  • Solid working knowledge of corporate financial systems (SAP, BlackLine, Workiva);
  • Strong technical writing skills, and able to write reports and document procedures;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong business acumen;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in an easily understood manner tailoring the communication to diverse audiences to facilitate understanding;
  • Solid demonstration of problem solving and analytical thinking skills in addressing complex challenges;
  • Strong demonstration of building strong and trusting relationships with managers, employees, and peers;
  • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work within established deadlines and time constraints;
  • Strong ability to assist, direct and provide ongoing review, feedback, and training on the operational activities of the peers;
  • Strong ability to act on own initiative and exercise professional judgment;
  • Solid demonstration of leadership skills with the ability to be self-motivated, work independently, as well as being part of a team;

Responsibilities

  • Understands, interprets, and explains financial accounting standards, corporate policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Understands and explains the function of key business processes and systems.
  • Performs complex analyses and operational reports which may have high-level or external audiences.
  • Prepares and reviews the capture and integrity of financial data.
  • Provides expert accounting, procedural, process, analytical, and business systems expertise to the corporation.
  • Provides analysis, trouble shooting, resolution of accounting and system issues, and training.
  • Performs primary and secondary reviews of others’ work.
  • Researches, develops, and implements processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides informal leadership through coaching and mentoring peers and other staff members.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepares and reviews financial master data and reporting structures to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Provides guidance and resolves complex issues related to financial master data, reporting structures and reporting tools.
  • Ensures service levels are met for finance master data and reporting structure requests and related processes.
  • Develops schedules, deadlines, and timelines, and oversees execution of operational enhancements, initiatives, and projects.
  • Provides support and informal leadership to internal and external stakeholders for successful financial system initiatives and projects.
  • Conducts and supports month-end financial system activities and related processes.
  • Conducts financial system access control and other system governance reviews.
  • Initiates and supports financial system enhancements and ensures all required documentation and testing are completed prior to production deployment.
  • Develops, updates, and reviews financial system user procedure documentation for internal stakeholders.
  • Contributes to process improvement initiatives across Finance and Corporate Services, identifying and advancing opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Performs other duties as required.
