We are looking for passionate, detail-oriented professionals to join our team. McLeod Centers for Wellbeing is currently seeking a Full-time Financial Services Specialist in Charlotte, NC (Hybrid). HOW WILL YOU HELP US ACHIEVE OUR MISSION? YOU WILL: Own and manage the full-cycle payroll process for a multi-site nonprofit organization, ensuring timely, accurate payroll processing and compliance with federal and state regulations. Serve as the internal payroll subject matter expert, resolving payroll discrepancies, tax issues, garnishments, benefit deductions, and system-related challenges. Prepare and reconcile payroll reports, tax filings, and related documentation. Prepare payroll-related accrual journal entries, including pay period and PTO/vacation accruals, to support accurate month-end and year-end close. Partner with HR on compensation updates, benefit changes, retirement contributions, and regulatory compliance. Support retirement plan administration and payroll-related benefit reconciliations. Assist with audit preparation by providing payroll reconciliations and supporting documentation. Maintain daily cash management files and oversee positive pay processes. Create and post journal entries to support financial reporting. Serve as backup support for Accounts Payable functions as needed. Promote the mission, vision, and values of McLeod Centers through ethical, confidential, and detail-oriented financial practices.

Requirements

  • Advanced Payroll Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax compliance, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to proactively identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and system issues.
  • Confidentiality & Professional Judgment: Handle sensitive compensation information with discretion and integrity.
  • Communication Skills: Clearly communicate payroll matters with staff, leadership, and external vendors.
  • Organization & Deadline Management: Thrive in deadline-driven payroll cycles while managing month-end responsibilities.
  • 3+ years of payroll-focused experience strongly preferred (multi-site or multi-state experience highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll independently.
  • Experience with payroll tax reporting, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams
  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems preferred
