About The Position

The Financial Reporting Supervisor provides broad oversight of general accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely completion of accounting activities. This position serves as a key supervisory bridge between Senior Accountants and department leadership and plays an integral role in supporting the District’s implementation and stabilization of Workday Financials. The Financial Reporting Supervisor will lead cross-functional accounting workflows, oversee journal entry processes, supervise professional accounting staff, and ensure readiness for month-end close, audit support, and Workday go-live activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field required.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a governmental or public sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise professional accounting staff and provide leadership across functional areas.
  • Advanced skills in journal entry review, reconciliation, and general ledger management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and support change management initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or project leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial process transformation (Workday experience preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily accounting operations across multiple functional areas, including general ledger, capital activity, fixed assets, revenue, and expenditure accounting.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with District policies and accounting standards.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of complex transactions and coordinate resolution of accounting issues.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring to Senior Accountants and professional accounting staff.
  • Support employee development through training, performance feedback, and career pathway planning.
  • Promote consistent application of accounting procedures and internal controls across the department.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including financial statement preparation support.
  • Coordinate with the Financial Reporting & Compliance Manager to ensure reporting accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Support implementation of accounting best practices aligned with governmental accounting standards (GASB).
  • Serve as a key lead for Workday implementation, including system testing, validation, and go-live readiness activities.
  • Support configuration review, transaction workflow testing, and process documentation within the Workday ecosystem.Assist with data conversion, reconciliation, and validation of financial information migrated into Workday.
  • Partner with leadership and the Senior Financial Systems Analyst to ensure successful system adoption and operational continuity post go-live.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, efficiency, and internal control processes.
  • Support modernization of accounting operations through alignment with Workday terminology and functional structure (Spend, Revenue, General Ledger).
  • Ensure compliance with District policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
