Department Profile The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organization's financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, and Valuation Review. Team Profile Corporate Reporting serves as the definitive source for the Firms consolidated financial data and is responsible for the month end close and consolidation process of the Firm's financials. The team produces the Firm's financial supplement which is filed with the SEC and released to news agencies. In addition, the team produces internal and external financial reports, statistical data and metrics used by the Chief Financial Officer, the senior management team and Board of Directors in the analysis and evaluation of the Firm's performance. We work with regulators, auditors, and other external constituents to ensure confidence in and understanding of the Firms financial reporting. This is a Director level position within the Corporate Controllers, Reporting & Accounting job family which is responsible for the accuracy and control of the Firm’s books and records to produce the consolidated firm, segment and legal entities financial statements. The group owns the Firm’s financial reporting under US GAAP, International GAAP and the global regulatory regimes. Responsibilities include the development, management and oversight of financial accounting & reporting systems as well as database management. Includes capital and liquidity reporting and external reporting functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
  • 5 years+ experience in financial reporting, financial services experience preferred
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while ensuring data integrity while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytic capabilities, including ability to summarize complex business issues and detailed analysis with clarity and brevity
  • Superior Excel, Pivot tables, Macro, and general MS Office skills
  • Understanding of financial systems, reporting and business processes (SAP-BPC/EPM preferred)
  • Adaptable to the changing demands of a reporting environment while being responsive to the needs of management

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cohesive team responsible for the preparation of Morgan Stanley's consolidated financial statements and earnings release financial supplement
  • Prepare and analyze quarterly earnings supporting documentation for senior stakeholders; monitor KPIs and drivers to identify and highlight areas of risk and execute key reporting controls
  • Prepare, review, and confirm financial schedules and commentary, and participate in diligence meetings for regulatory filings (8-K, 10-Q/K, FR-Y-9C, FR-Y14Q/A)
  • Drive meaningful reporting and analysis for stakeholders across finance and the Firm, and contribute to our continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate and engage with other finance controllers in preparation of ad hoc analysis and special projects by creating thorough, insightful financial reports and providing high quality analysis
  • Collect and analyze quarterly data from business unit controllers
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and users to establish an efficient operating model for new business processes
  • Responsible for the preparation and qualitative analysis of monthly quarterly reports around stockholders' equity, debt valuation adjustment and non-controlling interest partners
