Job Description: Financial Counselor Pacific Cancer Care (Monterey, CA) JOB DETAILS: LOCATION: Pacific Cancer Care - 5 Harris Ct, Monterey, CA 93940 SCHEDULE: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8-Hour Shifts SALARY RANGE: $28.00 – $40.32 per hour REPORTS TO: Director of Operational Excellence BENEFITS: Benefit-eligible position, including: Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off (PTO) Retirement plan (401k) JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Financial Counselor supports the Billing Department by assisting patients and families in understanding and managing their financial responsibilities for services received at Pacific Cancer Care. Key responsibilities include estimating out‑of‑pocket costs, preparing and presenting financial documentation, conducting patient interviews to review available assistance or payment options, and coordinating time‑of‑service collections by monitoring the daily schedule. The role also manages patient enrollment in financial‑aid programs, completes required follow‑up, and addresses billing‑related inquiries. The Financial Counselor performs additional billing duties as assigned and upholds all confidentiality requirements in accordance with HIPAA regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from accredited High School required. Graduation from business school/college and/or business/billing courses helpful. Related experience and/or training in filing Two (2) plus years related experience and/or training in basic accounting, particularly accounts payable. Demonstrated excellent people skills, verbal skills, and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment. Computer/10 Key Adding Machine skills Telephone skills. Customer service practices. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Type 30-40 words/minute Must be well organized and a self-starter. Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to learn specific software as well as able to train others. Working knowledge of efficient filing systems, office machines and equipment Make sound, independent decisions based on available data. Multitask and prioritize in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities. Ability to handle, use and respond to patients, phones, staff/MDs, vendors, and computers simultaneously. Speak clearly to be understood by patients, vendors, MDs, and staff. Maintain confidentiality/HIPPA. PHYSICAL FACTORS: The physical abilities required of this position may include the following: Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shift. Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person. Motor skills sufficient to operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, and telephone. Physical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materials. Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time. Physical ability to walk hallways between departments. Physical ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between departments. Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited High School required.
  • Two (2) plus years related experience and/or training in basic accounting, particularly accounts payable.
