About The Position

Financial Counselor Coordinator-Full Time JOB DUTIES Recognize, document and alert supervisor of trends in patient complaints and system issues Ensure FAP policies and addendums are kept up to date and most recent versions published online Coordinate with Firstsource to ensure streamlined workflow between teams Coordinate small group rate contracts, obtaining updated signatures and patient lists Coordinate with CDM coordinator and vendor to ensure accuracy of Estimates and troubleshoot as needed Training and mentoring of financial counseling team Facilitate Financial Counseling Team meetings Complies with Meadville Medical Center’s (MMC) policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations Obtain and verify patient insurance information to provide an accurate estimate Use Estimator program to generate patient estimates Contact patients prior to services to advise them of financial responsibilities Request patient payments prior to arrival Assist self-pay patients with Medicaid enrollment Advise patients on charity care eligibility and assist with applications Advise patients of Ablepay as an option for payment plans Process presumptive charity files Interacts with patients on a daily basis either face-to-face, by phone or online May need to directly contact patients by telephone or other approved technology to obtain and verity patient information Perform other duties as assigned Communicate with all hospital and hospital-based departments effectively Accurately and efficiently input patient demographics Is courteous, pleasant and polite to patients being registered in person or via phone Efficiently uses on line resources for patient information verification MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED A minimum of a high school diploma. Additional business and medical training preferred. Must have excellent Customer Service skills Required to maintain absolute confidentiality of patient care, patient accounts and hospital related matters Required to utilize positive Guest Relations principles in all interactions with patients, families, peers, third party payers and all members of the healthcare team Knowledge of basic office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax machine, etc Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to problem solve, identify solutions and make appropriate decisions. Knowledge of Microsoft office products, computers and operating systems. Knowledge of Meditech. Demonstrated customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volumes and stressful situation. Ability to exhibit independent judgement skills and show initiative. Ability to use tact and poise in representing MMC Health Systems. Ability to energize team members. Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver. Work with minimal direction and assistance. Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
